What Is A Concentric Pneumatic Butterfly Valve?

A butterfly valve is widely used in chemical, food, pharmaceutical, and oil and gas industries. These industrial valves are known for isolation as well as throttling features.

You can use it to completely shut on and off as well as regulate the flow of material. There are different types and designs of butterfly valves available in the market.

One such popular type is the concentric pneumatic butterfly valve. It is a special type of valve which comes with an air or pneumatic actuator. If you want to know more about this type of valve, follow this article.

In this article, we will explain to you about the concentric pneumatic butterfly valve and how it works.

What Is A Concentric Pneumatic Butterfly Valve?

It is a combination of a concentric butterfly valve with a pneumatic actuator feature. Here, the shaft or stem is located at the center of the disc which moves parallel as well as in a perpendicular motion to control and regulate the flow.

No matter if the valve is turned on or off, some part of the disc is always in contact with the seat. It helps you to quickly shut off the flow of material.

It is just like a normal buttery valve but with the presence of a pneumatic actuator. So, along with its normal operation, it also uses compressed air to rotate the stem of the disc.

The structure of the valve is simple. It is lightweight and very small in size. Apart from that, it costs less than other types of industrial valves. You can easily operate it to adjust the flow of the material or for isolation as well.

A concentric pneumatic butterfly valve is used on a wide variety of pumps to regulate the flow of fluids such as gasoline, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, or other gases.

These valves are available in a wide range of sizes and configurations. The majority of the valves are used on pump compressors and are used with air-cooled, oil-lubed, or water-cooled compressors. The concentric design provides an advantage in that there is not a large contact area between the piston and the valve itself.

How Does A Concentric Pneumatic Butterfly Valve Work?

To understand what a concentric pneumatic butterfly valve is, it is necessary to understand the operation of the valve. In this type of valve, there is a butterfly disc that moves to regulate and control the flow of the material.

The disc is located at the center and there is a rod or a stem that passes through the disc. This step is further connected to an actuator that is outside the valve.

When you rotate the actuator, it moves the disc. It rotates either in a perpendicular or parallel motion. This is how the valve works when the disc moves. With the presence of a pneumatic actuator, this valve uses compressed air and converts it into motion. When the air goes in the valve opens and closes accordingly.

The butterfly valve is used with a rigid diaphragm. The valve is designed so that air flows through the diaphragm and the valve to the compressor, reducing pressure.

When air is pushed through the valve it expands, which then creates a vacuum that draws in air from the ambient. As the pressure of the air is reduced with time, the amount of air that is drawn up into the valve decreases.

The valve then seals off and restricts airflow to the compressed air. This is the basic operation of this type of valve. To make this type of valve more efficient, concentric liners are often used.
