There are many different types of valves and ways to manage controls. However, the main types are described here:
Ball valves can be automated and/or controlled remotely by combining them with either an electric actuator (electric ball valves) or a pneumatic actuator (pneumatic ball valves). Pneumatic actuator automation may be preferable to electric actuator automation depending on the application, or vice versa
A butterfly valve is a flow-regulating valve with a disc in the center. The way it works is similar to a ball valve. A rod that runs through the disc is linked to an actuator outside the actuated butterfly valve via a spring. The actuator is rotated to move the disc parallel or perpendicular to the flow. A pressure drop is always developed in the flow regardless of where the valve is positioned because, unlike a ball valve, the disc always remains in the flow path.
These valves have a spherical shape, including a moving disc called the obturator that spins at a 90-degree angle to the plane of the coordinated body seat. This type of valve is available both in pneumatic and electric controlling systems.
