FAQ About Forged Steel Gate Valve

Cast steel and forged steel valves each have advantages and disadvantages, depending on the application requirements.

Cast steel valves are typically used in low to medium pressure applications, are less costly, and are suitable for large size manufacturing.

Forged steel valves have a denser structure, are more resistant to pressure and impact, and are suitable for high temperature and high pressure environments.

If the application environment requires high pressure resistance and high strength, forged steel valves are usually a better choice.

Large opening torque: since the gate and the valve seat are wedge-shaped, a large friction force needs to be overcome when opening, so the opening torque is large and a large force is required to open.

Not Suitable for Throttling: wedge gate valves are designed mainly for full open or full close operation. Using them for throttling (partial opening) can cause excessive wear on the gate and seating surfaces, potentially leading to valve failure.

Large Space Requirements: Due to the vertical movement of the gate, these valves require significant installation space, especially when large in size.

Forged steel is generally stronger than cast steel due to its higher strength and toughness as a result of the forging process. The forging process results in a denser internal structure and greater impact resistance. As a result, forged steel is one of the most desirable materials for applications that require high strength. However, whether it is the “strongest” depends on how it compares to other specialty alloys or composites.
