A lever-operated valve connects a flat handle directly to the valve stem. You rotate the lever 90 degrees, and the disc moves with it. There is no gear system between your hand and the disc. The force you apply goes straight to the valve.

This is called “water hammer,” which can rupture pipes, damage fittings, and destroy downstream equipment. The gearbox forces a slower close, which eliminates that risk entirely.

The worm gear also self-locks. Once you set the disc position, fluid pressure cannot push the handwheel backward. This gives you precise, stable throttling that a lever cannot reliably achieve.
