## Quick Answer

Gate valve flange dimensions are defined by two standards: ASME B16.5 (ANSI Class 150 to 2500) and EN 1092-1 (DIN PN10 to PN40). Each specifies the flange outside diameter, bolt circle, and bolt count for a given size and pressure class.Xintai Valves offers flanged gate valves in both ANSI and DIN flange configurations.

## What Are Gate Valve Flange Dimensions?

A flange dimension is a measurement defining how a valve’s flange face meets up with a matching pipe flange. The key dimensions include flange outside diameter, bolt circle diameter, bolt quantity, bolt diameter, and facing configuration.

![Gate valve flange dimensions showing OD and bolt circle](https://www.xintaivalves.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/image-36-1024x512.png)

Xintai’s [flanged gate valve guide](https://www.xintaivalves.com/wp-content/uploads/wp-mfa-exports/post/understanding-flanged-gate-valve.md) explains common RF, FF, and RTJ end configurations used on industrial gate valves.

## Why These Measurements Matter

Two flanges can only mate correctly if their bolt circles match. A few millimeters’ difference between the two will stop bolts from lining up with the mating holes.

![Gate valve flange bolt circle alignment and pressure class](https://www.xintaivalves.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/image-37-1024x512.png)

Pressure class adds another layer: higher classes use thicker flanges and larger bolts, even at the same pipe size, in order to stand up to greater internal pressure.

## Standards That Define These Dimensions

ASME B16.5 covers Classes 150, 300, 400, 600, 900, and 1500 from NPS 1/2 through NPS 24. Class 2500 is covered from NPS 1/2 through NPS 12. EN 1092-1 covers the DIN metric equivalent, spanning DN10 to DN600 and beyond.

Both standards fix the same core figures of outside diameter, bolt circle, bolt hole size, and bolt count: a valve constructed to either standard will only mate with flanges constructed to that same standard.

## What Are the ANSI Flange Dimensions for Gate Valves by Class?

ANSI flange dimensions for gate valves are governed by ASME B16.5, which defines Class 150 to Class 2500. The table below lists 5 common gate valve sizes across all 6 classes.

| NPS (in) | Class | Flange OD (in) | Bolt Circle (in) | No. of Bolts | Bolt Diameter (in) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 2 | 150 | 6 | 4-3/4 | 4 | 5/8 |
| 2 | 300 | 6-1/2 | 5 | 8 | 5/8 |
| 2 | 600 | 6-1/2 | 5 | 8 | 5/8 |
| 2 | 900 | 8-1/2 | 6-1/2 | 8 | 7/8 |
| 2 | 1500 | 8-1/2 | 6-1/2 | 8 | 7/8 |
| 2 | 2500 | 9-1/4 | 6-3/4 | 8 | 1 |
| 4 | 150 | 9 | 7-1/2 | 8 | 5/8 |
| 4 | 300 | 10 | 7-7/8 | 8 | 3/4 |
| 4 | 600 | 10-3/4 | 8-1/2 | 8 | 7/8 |
| 4 | 900 | 11-1/2 | 9-1/4 | 8 | 1-1/8 |
| 4 | 1500 | 12-1/4 | 9-1/2 | 8 | 1-1/4 |
| 4 | 2500 | 14 | 10-3/4 | 8 | 1-1/2 |
| 6 | 150 | 11 | 9-1/2 | 8 | 3/4 |
| 6 | 300 | 12-1/2 | 10-5/8 | 12 | 3/4 |
| 6 | 600 | 14 | 11-1/2 | 12 | 1 |
| 6 | 900 | 15 | 12-1/2 | 12 | 1-1/8 |
| 6 | 1500 | 15-1/2 | 12-1/2 | 12 | 1-3/8 |
| 6 | 2500 | 19 | 14-1/2 | 8 | 2 |
| 8 | 150 | 13-1/2 | 11-3/4 | 8 | 3/4 |
| 8 | 300 | 15 | 13 | 12 | 7/8 |
| 8 | 600 | 16-1/2 | 13-3/4 | 12 | 1-1/8 |
| 8 | 900 | 18-1/2 | 15-1/2 | 12 | 1-3/8 |
| 8 | 1500 | 19 | 15-1/2 | 12 | 1-5/8 |
| 8 | 2500 | 21-3/4 | 17-1/4 | 12 | 2 |
| 12 | 150 | 19 | 17 | 12 | 7/8 |
| 12 | 300 | 20-1/2 | 17-3/4 | 16 | 1-1/8 |
| 12 | 600 | 22 | 19-1/4 | 20 | 1-1/4 |
| 12 | 900 | 24 | 21 | 20 | 1-3/8 |
| 12 | 1500 | 26-1/2 | 22-1/2 | 16 | 2 |
| 12 | 2500 | 30 | 24-3/8 | 12 | 2-3/4 |

These ANSI flange dimensions show why pressure class must be confirmed before fabrication. A four-inch Class 150 valve cannot directly replace a Class 600 valve using the same mating flange.

Engineers should verify the project edition of ASME B16.5 and the manufacturer’s drawing. Facing, gasket selection, material group, and operating temperature also affect the final specification.

### Pressure Rating by Class (Group 1.1 Carbon Steel)

The chart below lists the typical maximum working pressure for common carbon steel gate valve materials at low temperature.

| Class | Max Working Pressure at –20°F to 100°F (psig) |
| --- | --- |
| 150 | 285 |
| 300 | 740 |
| 600 | 1,480 |
| 900 | 2,220 |
| 1500 | 3,705 |
| 2500 | 6,170 |

### Common NPS Sizes for Gate Valves

[Gate valves](https://www.xintaivalves.com/wp-content/uploads/wp-mfa-exports/page/gate-valve-manufacturer.md) tend to be shipped in NPS 2″ through 12″ sizes as standard for general industrial service. Larger sizes are available, but may require special handling and longer lead time.

## What Are the DIN/PN Flange Dimensions for Gate Valves?

[DIN flange dimensions](https://www.xintaivalves.com/wp-content/uploads/wp-mfa-exports/page/din-standard-valve.md) are governed by EN 1092-1, using PN (pressure nominal) notation rather than class numbers. PN16 and PN40 cover most industrial gate valve orders.

The flange dimension table below covers DN 50 to DN 300 to show common PN connection geometry.

| DN (mm) | PN Rating | Flange OD (mm) | Bolt Circle (mm) | No. of Bolts | Bolt Diameter |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 50 | PN16 | 165 | 125 | 4 | M16 |
| 50 | PN40 | 165 | 125 | 4 | M16 |
| 100 | PN16 | 220 | 180 | 8 | M16 |
| 100 | PN40 | 235 | 190 | 8 | M20 |
| 150 | PN16 | 285 | 240 | 8 | M20 |
| 150 | PN40 | 300 | 250 | 8 | M24 |
| 200 | PN16 | 340 | 295 | 12 | M20 |
| 200 | PN40 | 375 | 320 | 12 | M27 |
| 300 | PN16 | 460 | 410 | 12 | M24 |
| 300 | PN40 | 515 | 450 | 16 | M30 |

### PN16 vs PN40: When Each Applies

PN16 is suitable for water service, HVAC, and low-pressure process lines. PN40 handles higher-pressure oil, gas, and chemical service, and its flanges and bolting are also heavier.

### DN and NPS Aren’t Interchangeable

DN50 is close to NPS 2″, but not identical in terms of bolt pattern, and can never be bolted up directly to an ANSI flange without a certified adapter.

## How Do You Read a Flange Dimension Chart?

The key columns in any flange dimension table are the same: outside diameter, bolt circle, number of bolts, and bolt size. First, identify the bolt circle diameter because it determines whether two flanges will align.

### Matching Bolt Circle and Bolt Count

The bolt circle and bolt count between mating flanges must match exactly. The outside diameter can vary somewhat between manufacturers without a problem.

### Checking Facing Type Before Ordering

Raised face is the most common facing across Class 150 to 2500 and most PN ratings. Ring-type joint facing is used at higher pressure classes, where a machined groove holds a metal ring gasket in place.

Use a gate valve flange chart to confirm these details before issuing a purchase order. An incorrect facing type can cause as many installation problems as an incorrect bolt circle.

For replacement work, compare the manufacturer’s drawing with the existing piping.
